Department Of Bengali
The Department of Bengali, Sidho-Kanho–Birsha University, Purulia, started its journey in the session 2011-2012. It is one of the departments that the University started functioning with. At present, six permanent faculties enlighten the department with the aim of pertaining higher education and develop research aptitudes among the students .
Students’ Achievement and placements:
The first NET- JRF of the University, Ananda Saini, was the student of the first batch of the Bengali Dept. Two students from the Department has been serving as Assistant teacher in schools under the School Education Department of Govt. of West Bengal. One student is working in Indian Railway Department. Three of the students have received opportunity of Coaching WBCS & IAS, sponsored by West Bengal Government.
The department of Bengali of SKB University wants to make sure that its students may have the best possible educational experience. The Department aims at fostering the latent aesthetic and critical capabilities of students for proper appreciation of the fullest import of language and literature on the individual and society. Further, it seeks to provide research facilities to scholars interested in undertaking advanced researches on the subject.
Seminars and workshops:
The department has already organized two National Level Seminars ‘জন্ম-সার্ধশতবর্ষে দ্বিজেন্দ্রলাল রায়’, dated : May 07-08, 2013 and ‘একালের চোখে দীনেশচন্দ্র সেন’, dated April 01&02, 2014 and will be organizing one International level seminar on ‘Bankimchandra Chatterjee’ in July, 2014 as proposed date .
The first literary and research-centric publication of the University– ‘ঝুমুর: লোকজীবনের সন্ধান’has been brought out by the Bengali dept. in collaboration with Prabhat Aloy Foundation, Dabar, Purulia) and the second book, ‘জন্ম-সার্ধশতবর্ষে দ্বিজেন্দ্রলাল রায়’ is in press.
The Department is in the process of establishing a Manuscript and Folk lore Laboratory and a Language Hub with special emphasis on Endangered Languages.
