Department Of Chemistry

About the Department

The Chemistry Department has started its journey in 2011. Right from the beginning of journey, the Department has established a tradition of excellence in education and research in the broad area of chemistry. The department presently has six permanent faculty members – Dr. Nagendranath Mahata, Dr. Subrata Kumar Dey, Prof. Sadhana Khawas, Dr. Debdas Mandal, Dr. Jayanta Maity, and Dr. Debasis Dhak. Also, a number of high quality experts from different universities and colleges are extending help to the department as guest teachers. The department is supported by four non-teaching staffs. The department is trying to provide one of the best academic environments in the nation. Also, the department is engaged in research activities on basic and contemporary areas of chemistry, relevant to the society. The major research fields encompass interdisciplinary areas such as bioinorganic, bioorganic, material, nanomaterial, organometallic, polymer, solid-state, adsorption and catalysis in addition to the traditional areas i.e. inorganic, organic and physical chemistry. The department publishes research articles frequently in the peer reviewed journals.

Ever since the inception of the Department of Chemistry it has been making its way steadily through time. Number of students has qualified in the Nation-wide tests like GATE and NET. The Department of Chemistry, Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, is the right place for aspiring and sincere students. The teachers are easily accessible to the students at any time.
