The most important work of the department during the year 2012-2013 was the preparation of the P.G. syllabus of Department. The syllabus was prepared after looking at the syllabuses of the other universities of West Bengal. Professor Smritikumar Sarkar, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Burdwan; Professor UjjayanBhattacharjee, Dean, Faculty of Arts at Vidyasagar University and Prof.Alok Ghosh, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Kalyani were external members of the Syllabus Committee of History. Their valuable suggestions were very helpful in the framing of the P.G. syllabus of History.
The department organised a tour to Murshidabad in January 2013 to enable the students to have a firsthand knowledge about Murshidabad, the capital of pre-colonial Nawabi Bengal. The faculty members have decided to continue this historical excursion every year. In 2014 there are plans to visit Nalanda and Buddha Gaya to provide the students an insight into the ancient history of India.
The department every year celebrates 1st November, which is the PuruliaBangabhuktiDibos. On that day in 1956, the Manbhum district of the then erstwhile province of Bihar was split into two and Purulia, a part of the earlier Manbhum district was annexed to West Bengal. The department every year observes the day in a befitting manner. Apart from this the department places stress in its P.G. syllabus in teaching the local history of Manbhum-Purulia.
On 28th April 2014, the department organised the 1st state level seminar at S.T.T. College auditorium on Recent Researches on South West Bengal in General and Manbhum in Particular.
