About The Department
The Department of Political Science, Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University started its voyage in the month of August 2011. The Department offers M.A. Programme in Political Sciencewhich emphasises on the study of Political Theory /Ideas, Comparative Politics , /International Relations and Indian Politics and Public Policy. The programme is designed to i) acquaint the students with the theoretical foundations of, and the basic idea in the main branches of political science from the perspective of alternative theoretical approaches, and to ii) enable the students to relate their analytical understanding of the subject and to interpret the socio-political crisis. Consequently, the Department places special emphasis on the study of political development in India and promotes theoretically informed analysis of social and political reality.
With a bunch of fresh, inquisitive students and dedicated faculty, the department’s quest for quality and knowledge is unbound. And this quest goes beyond the formal syllabus, beyond the four walls of our classrooms. Students are encouraged to question and debate, and raise issues within and beyond the syllabus. They are encouraged to participate in students’ seminars and present papers. The pedagogy involves guiding students to write dissertations and term papers beyond formal lecturing. The department believes in helping the students to grow as good human beings, not only good students. The faculty members are engaged in continuous research in all areas of the discipline, besides their regular teaching assignments. From the very beginning the Department has introduced Semester systems. The Syllabi have been framed in tune with the latest development in the discipline. The department believes that framing of the syllabi is a continuous process and wishes to change the course curricula from time to time.
Future Plan of action of the department:
i) To Introduce the M.Phil. Course,
ii) To Establish a centre for Women Studies,
iii) To introduce a certificate course on Human Rights.
iv) To organize State/National level seminars.
v) To organize Extension Lecture in the department , Introducing modern techniques of teaching through LCD Projector etc .
vi) To publish Departmental Journal -“State Society and Politics”
· Dissertations are offered at the final stage of PG Programme.
· The Department on regular basis arranges Group Discussion, Class level Seminar, Debate on emerging issues, Field Survey etc..
· Eminent Professors from different Universities deliver extension lectures
· Students of The Department take part in various extra- curricular activities.
· The students of the department regularly bring out a wall magazine “Prasanga Rajniti” which reflects their awareness about the contemporary socio-political scenario.
· The faculties of the department have been offering their valuable services as resource persons/counselors/experts in various academic and related programme within and outsides the campus.
New inclusion from the emerging fields in curriculum:
The department has included in its curriculumtheemerging issueslike Human Rights Women Studies and Law, Global Governance, Social and Political Development and the recent development of International Paradigm.
Continuous Modernization of syllabus, Innovative Methods of teaching, encourage the students to fundamental research.
The department believes in helping the students to grow as good human beings, not only good students.
